Whether you dream of acting on stage, singing in a musical, or designing the lights and sets that make the magic happen, Atholton Theater offers opportunities for every kind of theatre student.


Our Courses

  • Theatre Arts I – Theatre Arts I is a performance-based course which offers students an introduction to the process and production of theatre. Students will use critical thinking and problem solving to create personal meaning through collaborative performances. Students will use theatre practices to create, perform, and reflect in social and historical contexts. An expectation is that students will attend live theatrical productions during after-school hours.
  • Theatre Company (G/T SECTION OFFERED)–In this course, students collaborate as a production company working as directors, writers, actors, designers, and technicians on theatrical projects. Exploring plays and theatre processes from a variety of time periods and cultures, students develop performances and designs for production. Students in this course are expected to participate in class project performances. The number of required non-school practices, events, and performances during a school year may not exceed 25. Students are encouraged to be a part of the co-curricular productions.
  • Musical Theatre Company (G/T SECTION OFFERED– In this course, students collaborate as a production company working as directors, lyricists, composers, choreographers, actors, designers, and technicians on theatrical projects. Exploring musicals and theatre processes from a variety of time periods and cultures, students develop performances and designs for production. Students in this course are expected to participate in class project performances, as well as an end of the year showcase.
  • Theatre Apprenticeship G/T– In this course, students will design and construct the technical elements of the theatre productions. Students will learn about storytelling and design principles in order to apply them to set, lighting, prop, sound, costume, and marketing. Students will also learn about safe practices in construction and electrical work. Students will be actively involved in the production process. After school hours may be required.
  • Technical Theatre (Semester Course)– In this course, students are to develop and build production skills, creatively collaborate, and apply aesthetic design to theatre productions. The process of Theatre Arts study enhances the development of creative and critical thinking skills, affords opportunities to build individual and group work ethics, and increases achievement through both individual and collective efforts. All Theatre Arts courses satisfy the Fine Arts graduation requirement. The Theatre Arts Program affords opportunities in co-curricular productions that allow for mastery and application of performance and production skills taught in Theatre Arts courses.

Atholton Theatre is proud to bring our community a full season of entertainment:

  • Fall Production
  • Spring Production
  • Theatre Arts Showcase, “One Night Only”, starring students from our Theatre Company and Musical Theatre Company
  • AHI Tuna Improv Club Performance

Auditions are open to all Atholton students—you don’t need to be enrolled in a theatre class to take the stage! (Note: students in Theatre Company and Musical Theatre Company are required to shine in the Spring Showcase.)



International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program.

ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre – performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.

*Eligible Students are invited to join ITS during the spring semester of the academic year.



Stage Crew/ Production Experience

Not every star stands in the spotlight. Many shine backstage! During one of the mainstage production processes, Students havew the opportunity to collaberate and work in the following technical departments:

  • Costumes
  • Props
  • Lighting
  • Sound
  • Production
  • Stage Management

These roles are the heartbeat of every show, and they give students the chance to explore thier creativity, learn leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork while creating something unforgettable.

Atholton Film Club

The Atholton Film club is student-led organization in which students create compelling and entertaining stories through short films, documentaries, and collaborative projects for everyone to enjoy. This club offers students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in production, video editing, photo editing, graphic design, screenwriting, camerawork, videography and acting. The Atholton Film Club is open to students with all levels of experience.
